-J or Joke articles are a style of containment fiction writing in which the goal is to make the reader laugh, usually through a pseudo-scientific format and clinical tone. There is little set criteria for what makes a subjectively “good” -J article as most readers find the judgement of humor to be entirely up to what they individually find humorous.

It has been a common criticism among containment fiction communities for “Main List” style articles which use humor as “needs to be a -J”, an assertion which has been occasionally noted to cause vigorous disagreements.
